MEDscience@HMS

Our MEDscience@HMS Program offers high school students with interests in science, medicine or healthcare a hands-on, active learning environment where they are immersed in realistic, dynamic, simulated medical emergencies.

Students learn clinical skills and explore healthcare careers from various medical professionals in the field.

This program motivates students to think critically, problem-solve, and work effectively in teams.

Program Highlights

  • Experience the real-life excitement of emergency room care in our Harvard Medical School state-of-the-art simulation labs! Learn to evaluate, diagnose and treat our life-like, interactive patients. Work alongside physicians, nurses, medical students, and pre-med students in specialized small groups.

  • Perform hands-on skills like interpreting vital signs, suturing wounds, inserting IV’s, laparoscopic training, and intubation. You might even help deliver a baby in our Birthing Simulations! Receive trauma care training and certification in Stop the Bleed* and American Red Cross CPR/AED* certification. (*Not offered in Session 2)

  • Our MEDchats help you investigate future career opportunities by introducing you to a network of Harvard-affiliated healthcare professionals. Participate in engaging career conversations to learn about their specialties and career paths, as they relate some of their most memorable patient cases.

  • Learn and practice critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills that help you prepare for college, work, and life!

I have always wanted to be a doctor or pursue a career in medicine. Coming here not only strengthened this, but made me feel like I belonged. It has motivated me to continue my dream and realize this is something I truly want.
